Planning for Staff Returning to the Workplace

We recognise that this is a challenging time and planning a return to the workplace will require consideration of many practical and operational issues.

Individuals will have dealt with the pandemic and its consequences in different ways, some will have continued to work at home, some unable to work due to health conditions, some may have been furloughed. On top of this there may be fear and anxiety around the impact of health, finances and relationships. As we make progress out of lockdown life won’t return immediately to what is was previously.

To support you to manage your workforce in planning a return we have produced a toolkit, including guidance and template forms, to help you plan for staff returning to the workplace during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Returning to work after “shielding”

From 1 August, Scottish Government advise is people who have been shielding currently no longer need to do so. This means that in general, people who have been shielding can now follow the same advice as everyone else in Scotland and can return to work if unable to work from home subject to the employer conducting a COVID 19 risk assessment and implementing control measures to ensure the workplace is safe for all workers.

Read our example control measures to help ensuring the safe return to work of those shielding.
